About
I'm Adam Kent, I like cars, I like quality, I like classic design, I like value for money, I like Germany, I like German cars and I love classic German cars, and if you're reading this you probably do too. If you know me, you'll know that my entire life has revolved around cars, but if you don't, let me give you a quick history lesson.
In 1957 my grandparents Albert and Patricia Kent moved to Loughborough to take over the running of the BP and Shell filling stations. Soon after, a local lady, Mrs Paget from Nanpantan, wanted to sell her car and an arrangement was made for Albert to put it on the forecourt and try and sell it for her. And so it began.
Petrol sales became secondary as buying and selling cars took over and by the late 1960s, my dad, Paul, had become an integral part of the team. By the end of the 1970s, the main focus was on Mercedes, BMW and Porsche motor cars. Most of my childhood outside of school was spent going along with Dad or Grandpa to car auctions and car dealerships or hanging out at our showroom in Loughborough town centre.
In the late 70s and early 80s Paul had hit upon a niche market for buying new cars directly from the dealers in Germany and importing them into the UK, selling them at a lower price than could be found through the, then expensive, dealer network. I remember my first trip in 1980. We took the train to London, flew to Dusseldorf, straight to Hammer BMW in Erkelenz and drove a brand new, UK spec, 633CSi back home via Zeebrugge - Felixstowe. As a 10 year old, that felt like quite a busy day!
Paul moved to the USA in 1983 where he continued to import cars from Germany, although this time used ,rather than new, German spec Porsches and Mercedes in the early days of the growing grey import market. By the time I left school and joined Albert in the family business it felt like I had already served an 18 year apprenticeship and we were able to carry on buying and selling cars to the trade right up to his retirement. At that point I decided to see what life was like outside the motor trade and took a couple of jobs in the engineering and logistics industries but it wasn't long before I was back.
After Albert passed away in 2000 I moved into motor car retailing and have spent the last 15 years at the Volkswagen, Toyota and Fiat dealerships in Loughborough which has given me a great insight into this side of the business but my passion for classic German automobiles remains, and my spare time is spent sourcing fine examples.
All the cars that you see here are carefully evaluated by myself before I decide whether or not they are of a suitable quality to be resold. I source the majority of the cars directly from main dealers and I will use them for a while to see if they are functioning properly and also if any attention is required. If they need a service, then I service them, if the MOT is due within 6 months then I'll put them through a test.
As you can probably gather, most of the cars that I have are the ones that caught my eye as a youngster and have stayed in my heart ever since. I love the simplicity of design alongside the over-engineering that goes into making these cars such desirable yet easy to live with classics. I hope you do too.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and please give me a call or drop me a line if you'd like to take a closer look at any of the cars or have any questions.
